DISCUSSION QUESTION 4

How can concentration be used to dis-identify with the mind, life and body and identify instead with the true Self?

Response by Learner MD

This can be achieved by the dual use of concentration and renunciation. As we dwell on the Self as the object of knowledge we simultaneously emphasize the thought that we are not the body, we are not the mind and that we are not the life. When this identification with body, life and mind is renounced vehemently and persistently it loosens its hold on us and gives way to the true person within. By concentration and renunciation we can be anything that we want to be or aspire for.

Response by Learner JT

Disindentifying with the activities of the mind and life and body and moving towards the true self would require practising renunciation which I mentioned in last answer, which will help to move from lower values to higher values.

The process of doing it -- the How part... largely differs from individual to individual. Though there is something general which I answered in the last response.
